Second Annual OpenAccess Conference To Feature Speakers from IBM, LSI Logic, Hewlett-Packard, Cadence, Motorola and Si2
OpenAccess Conference
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 27, 2003--
Conference in San Jose on February 11, 2003 To Offer Forums and
Product Demos
OpenAccess Technical Training Course Follows on February 12-14, 2003
The Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) announced the speakers
and program for the second annual OpenAccess Conference.
The event is slated for February 11, 2003 at the DoubleTree Hotel
in San Jose, Calif. A three-day technical training course on
OpenAccess will be held February 12-14, 2003.
OpenAccess (OA) is the open, industry standard application
programming interface (API) and reference database for the design of
nanometer integrated circuits (ICs). The standard is being developed
by the OpenAccess Coalition of leading electronics and electronic
design automation (EDA) companies. OpenAccess features an advanced
64-bit, thread-safe C++ architecture supporting analog and digital IC
design, with highly flexible extensibility and order-of-magnitude
improvements in performance and capacity over prior generation
architectures.
Steve Schulz, chairman and president of Si2, said, "I invite EDA
tool developers and users, CAD managers, technology executives, and
academia to join us for this year's conference. We have a stellar
line-up of speakers who will provide a view into the future of
OpenAccess along with first-hand experiences in adopting and using
OpenAccess technology. More than 150 companies have downloaded
OpenAccess 2.0 since the release was announced on January 9 this year.
There has also been growing activity around OpenAccess as a university
research platform. Interest is high and we expect an excellent
turnout."
Highlights of the Conference Program
| -- | The newest developments in applications on OpenAccess
technology will be shared by technical leaders from
top semiconductor and EDA companies
| -- | Developers from multiple EDA companies will
demonstrate their applications running on OpenAccess
| -- | Conference keynote speaker Mark Papermaster, Director
of Global Microprocessor Design in the IBM Systems
Group, will discuss the significance of OpenAccess to
IBM processor development and IBM's strong support for
OpenAccess.
| -- | Coalition member and Cadence vice president Lavi Lev
will outline Cadence plans for IC design products on
OpenAccess.
| -- | A luncheon and panel discussion for all attendees will
feature OpenAccess Coalition members discussing the
business and technical aspects of adopting, and using
OpenAccess.
| -- | Attendees can attend open forums where OpenAccess
Coalition members and users will answer their
questions.
| -- | Also speaking at the conference this year are
OpenAccess Coalition chair Scott Peterson of LSI
Logic, Jim Wilmore of Hewlett-Packard, Ted Paone of
Cadence, Joanne Schell of Motorola, Joe Santos of
Cadence, and Steve Geiger and Simon Garrison of

Special OpenAccess Academic Session
Of particular interest to professors, students, and industry
representatives associated with academic research in EDA is a session
hosted by Si2's vice president of technology, Sumit DasGupta. This
discussion will concentrate on how OpenAccess can be leveraged as a
platform for research, technology transfer and student training. It
will contain presentations from Silicon Research Committee and
academia.
Hands-on OpenAccess Training Course
This three-day training course begins on February 12 with an
introduction to OpenAccess. Training sessions will cover all major
aspects of OpenAccess technology including: connectivity, physical
shapes, floor planning, wire routing and vias, parasitics, callbacks,
parametrizable cells, application extensions, the extensibility of the
API, database implementation features, name mapping, flattening, and
more.

About OpenAccess
OpenAccess is a community effort to provide true interoperability,
not just data exchange, among IC design tools through an open standard
data access interface (API) and reference database implementation
supporting that API for IC design. The OpenAccess technology will help
enable easy tool integration, smooth interoperability, and faster
application development. The initiative is driven by the OpenAccess
Coalition, a neutral organization comprised of 17 leading EDA and
electronics companies including Cadence Design Systems, Celestry,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM Microelectronics, Intel, LSI Logic, Mitsubishi
Electric Corporation, Motorola, Nassda, Numerical Technologies,
Philips Semiconductors, Sagantec, STMicroelectronics, Sun
Microsystems, Synplicity, Tektronix, and Verisity. The Coalition
operates under the governance and bylaws of Si2. For more information,
visit www.si2.org/openaccess and www.OpenEDA.org.
About Si2
Si2, a not-for-profit organization, provides engineering
consultation and services to leading silicon, electronic systems, and
EDA companies. Our members are championing API-level integration that
will enable design reuse, EDA tool choice, and increased productivity.
Si2's approach is based on the transfer of proven technology to
industry standards and enabled by the demonstrated success of the open
source methodology. Si2 represents members throughout North America,
Europe, and Asia. For more information on Si2, visit www.si2.org.
